The Australian Actor’s Fund is raising $200m to help fund charities in Australia and overseas.
The funds will be used to support the following organisations:The Australian Film and Television Industry Foundation, which supports independent films and television productions in Australia, is also the recipient of the funding.
Its CEO, Michael Green, said the fund was a natural extension of its philanthropic work.
“We’ve always had the ambition to help other organisations in Australia through our fund,” he said.
“It’s really about making a contribution to help the people that we work with in the industry to create more of the amazing work that we’re proud of.”
Mr Green said the group had raised $200,000 from private donors in the last two years and hoped to raise another $300,000 over the next two years.
“Our aim is to get this money to all of the charities we support,” he added.
“And hopefully over the years we’ll raise a few more hundred thousand more to help all of our Australian-based artists.”
The fund will not only fund the arts sector, but also support the arts in the community.
“In the community, we support a lot of local artists,” Mr Green said.
“There are many more people in the country who are working on their arts and they’re not necessarily going to get the support that they need.”
Mr Greens said the funding would be allocated based on a variety of factors, including the number of arts-related projects a project is supported by.
“One of the things that we want to do is help to create a more diverse and diverse arts community,” he explained.
“So we’re really looking to give some money to the smaller groups that are creating the things we’re interested in.”
